Thanksgiving Travel 2009

No, it wasn't as long as last year, but I still ended up in nasty traffic trying to get out of the city. Just shy of 1000 miles and 20 hours...

Upgrades to my Ruger PC9

I went to The Nations Gun Show today and I had a couple items on my shopping list for my Ruger PC9, most importantly a weaver / picatinny rail and a red dot. I could use a strap but my model is missing the rings on the stock and the barrel band and I needed some cheap plinking ammo more than a tactical sling.

I managed to find 1 vendor out of the whole show that had the rail that I needed. Instead of getting a red dot I found a super cheap holographic sight and got that instead. The gunsmith that did the installation and bore sight could only get the rail to fit one way, but I think the it was designed to go the other direction. Either way, I am more concerned with the functionality of finally having a rail and it was only $25. Pair that with a $60 holo and for less than $100 I tricked it out with everything I've been wanting.

The sight has 7 intensities and 4 reticles: cross hair, dot, circle dot, and circle cross hair (the blurry one in the pic below). I'm heading to the range to try everything out with some amazingly cheap ammo on Monday. I managed to get 500 rounds of Russian steel cased 115gr FMJ 9mm for $100 which is a BIG help to me and actually affording to use the ranges up here.
